NEW Closet Tour + Fall Ten-Item Wardrobe Sneak Peek

Hello Daily Connoisseurs,

I hope you are well and that everyone in the path of Hurricane Irma is safe. What a perilous few weeks this has been!

Because of my travel schedule, I have not had a chance to film my typical ten-item wardrobe fashion show video. I didn't want to leave you hanging, however, so in today's video I'm showing you the closet in our new home and you get to see both new and old pieces for my fall/ winter wardrobe. All of the new items are from zulily.

Those of you who have purchased my ten-item wardrobe eCourse have already seen this video, which was included in the bonus section. Thank you to everyone who has taken the course! The comments have been enabled and there is a wonderful community of ten-item wardrobe devotees there with progress updates, Q&As and discussions. I love it!

Zulily is a really great website that has highly discounted designer clothing. They have new items on sale every day and the items are only there for a limited period of time. While zulily is a wonderful resource for shopping, it can also become addictive. You will have the urge to check it out every day to see what is new! But even though the deals are great and everything looks enticing, try to keep the ten-item wardrobe mindset intact and not over-shop.

Another thing to note about zulily: they do not accept returns. This is how they keep their costs down. Although their website does say to call them if your purchase doesn't work for you and they will come up with a solution.

I will try to shoot a fashion show video at some point, perhaps in Europe, but until then, I hope you enjoy today's video.

News

Check out my new eCourse on the ten-item wardrobe. With over an hour of never-before-seen video instruction, notes and quizzes, you will be on-track to creating your own ten-item wardrobe. For those of you who already do the ten-item wardrobe, this course will keep you focused and provide further inspiration. It's only $5. Enjoy!

Here's what people are saying about the eCourse:

Sheri S writes, "I totally enjoyed viewing the eCourse!! I'm planning to re-watch it today and get started working on my own closet. I appreciate you compiling these videos and the fact that you made it so affordable to us to participate!! Best wishes on your travels! God bless you all!"

Mejana G writes, "This was such an enjoyable course! Last year I've set a life goal to simplify my life and I came across your YouTube channel. So I've been trying to apply the 10 item wardrobe for two seasons now since reading your books and watching the TED X talk. But this course gave me the direction I needed to to transition from season to season. I was just storing the clothes away without assessing them first. I'm really motivated to hone in my style now and continue in this journey. Thank you Jennifer for all the hard work, fine example & encouragement."

Sheridan J writes, "I am in the process of switching out my 10-item wardrobe for the new season and took this course as a refresher. I've been following Jennifer's advice for well over a year now and I must say that the 10-item wardrobe concept has been a Godsend! Though I may have to buy an item or two each season, once my 10-items and extras are in place, I have a wardrobe comprising only clothes that I enjoy. I always have something to wear. Thank you for the inspiration!"

Thank you, ladies, for your wonderful feedback on the ten-item wardrobe eCourse.

Ten-Item Wardrobe Look-Back SS 2017

Hello Daily Connoisseurs,

In today's video, I go through my spring/summer wardrobe to decide what stays and what goes. I hope you will join me as I look-back at my ten-item wardrobe from the past season.

At the end of each season, it's a great idea to assess your wardrobe. If you get in the habit of going through each item and analyzing how it performed for you, you will continue to remain thoughtful about your ten-item wardrobe and not slip into filling your closet with clothes again. Why? Because each item is special and has a purpose. After deciding what stays and what goes, store your clothes away so you can focus on your fall/ winter wardrobe. When you bring out your clothes again next spring, you will be excited to see them!

My tunic in this video is from zulily.

I really appreciate your planning and wardrobe videos. As I approach my 30s, I am more interested in quality clothes in smaller volumes than the "haul" approach I would have favored a few years ago, buying a large volume of cheap clothes. I just moved back to the US after spending the last decade in Europe and I have found it incredibly difficult to find good quality clothes, but your videos always help point me in the right direction! Thank you for taking the time to share the brands and styles that have worked for you.

Summer Chat |Favorites + Taking My Summer Break

Dear Daily Connoisseurs,

The time has come again for me to take my annual summer break. I look forward to this break each year because I am able to devote more of my work time toward writing projects. I also come back refreshed and renewed in September for another great season on The Daily Connoisseur.

Before, I go on my break, however, I wanted to have a chat with you about various things that have been happening this summer. When I return from my break, I will have at least two major life updates for you (maybe more)!

Today, I'm sharing an amazing story about what happened when I got a flat tire, some ten-item wardrobe observations for summer, an album that I have been loving, what I've been watching, the trouble with being a minimalist and so much more! Intrigued? I hope you watch today's video!

Mentioned in the video:

My favorite summer album has been Bach for Breakfast, as recommended in At Home with Madame Chic.

My favorite song on the album is the Sinfonia from Christmas Oratorio. So good!

Congratulations to my YouTube friend, Kathryn Morgan. I love both of her YouTube channels, Kathryn Morgan and Forever Youngs.

MiniCelini a wonderful business that makes girls dresses from Dad's old shirts. Problem is, dad (my husband) is such a minimalist, he doesn't have any old shirts! :)

I also discuss two recent articles on the casual nature of our everyday clothing: Verily Magazine's piece Why I No Longer Wear Leggings In Public, and Tom Ford's interview on leisure wear.

Three Problems in my Ten-Item Wardrobe

When you have a ten-item wardrobe, you become keenly aware of the triumphs, as well as failures with your clothing choices. Today, I'm sharing three problems in my ten-item wardrobe with two core items and one extra.

One morning at my daughters' ballet class I looked in the large mirror and realized that the khaki skirt in my ten-item wardrobe was no longer flattering on me. It was too stretched out and wrinkly. I decided to replace it with the
LL Bean denim skirt in the light wash (which appears to be no longer available in that wash).

The second item is the coral blouse from TJ Maxx. While I love the color of that blouse, it is not washing well and is coming apart and pilling. The final item is an extra: a beige cardigan from Ann Taylor. After washing and steaming it, the cardigan has developed stains that I cannot get out.

I have already replaced the skirt, and whether or not I replace the other two items is yet to be seen. If I find a blouse I love, I might purchase it for the wardrobe. As always, I will keep you updated! I hope you enjoy today's video.

I am featured in the upcoming anthology, A Paris All Your Own: Bestselling Women Writers on the City of Light, out July 4th from G.P. Putnam's Sons.

Goodbye, Things | The New Japanese Minimalism

In today's video I share a book review for Fumio Sasaki's new book, Goodbye, Things: The New Japanese Minimalism. This book was sent to me to review by the publisher, W.W. Norton & Company.

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo?hes just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didnt absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him. In Goodbye, Things Sasaki modestly shares his personal minimalist experience, offering specific tips on the minimizing process and revealing how the new minimalist movement can not only transform your space but truly enrich your life. The benefits of a minimalist life can be realized by anyone, and Sasakis humble vision of true happiness will open your eyes to minimalisms potential.

This was another great book to provide inspiration for de-cluttering the home in the same vein of Marie Kondo's Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I hope you enjoy my book review in today's video!

Margery H writes:
My time saving hack has to do with housecleaning. I really hate dealing with mildew stain in the shower caulking because they do not scrub out. We live in Atlanta where there are humid, humid summers. Here is my effortless way to remove them: apply clear, gel, bleach-based toilet cleaner in the morning. Rinse out at night. The gel formula makes it stay on the stain rather than running off. The bleach clears the mildew. Do not use blue or colored cleaner, as it will stain your grout! I keep a bottle of toilet cleaner which I use just for this purpose. (It's Clorox brand.) I consider this my magnum opus of housekeeping hacks!

5 Time-Saving Hacks for Moms

In honor of Mother's Day this upcoming Sunday, I am sharing 5 time-saving mom hacks. These tips could be beneficial for any woman, not just mothers. Many of these tips revolve around getting ready and taking care of yourself. I chose these tips because, as moms, we often put ourselves last on the priority list. Soon as we know it, we've gone months without doing our hair, dressing up or even taking a moment to ourselves. If you practice taking care of yourself, it will eventually come naturally to you and it will take hardly any time at all!

This video is a collaboration with two of my favorite YouTubers: Jennifer from The Family Fudge, and Kimmy from She's in Her Apron. Check out their 5 time-saving mom hacks and tell them I say "hello!".

My 5 time-saving mom hacks are as follows:

1. Braid your hair the night before. If you like the effect of the curling iron, like I do, but have limited time in the morning (or want to lay off the heat, for the health of your hair) try braiding your hair in pigtails the night before. You can spray them with hairspray, if you like. When you wake up and take out the braids, you will have beachy waves. This texture is also great for creating updos, as your hair will have more volume.

2. Make Breakfast the Night Before.
You know that I love to make breakfast the night before. I've already shared my overnight oats recipe, as well as my slow cooker apple breakfast cobbler recipe. Today, I share my favorite crock pot oatmeal. I've been making this particular recipe on a regular basis and it is so tasty. My baby especially loves this meal. Place one cup of oatmeal (steel cut, or old-fashioned) in the slow cooker. Add 4 cups of liquid (I do 2 cups of almond milk and 2 cups of water) and 5 prunes. Turn it on low for 8 hours. When you wake up, shred the prunes and serve with a drop of milk. So delicious and requires no sugar!

3. Bathe or shower only once a day. Rather than bathing morning and evening, streamline it to once a day and you will not only save time, but resources as well. In today's video I share a funny story about the time Madame Chic required me to choose my bath time in Paris. I hope you enjoy my story!

4. Don't cleanse your skin in the morning. You do not need a complicated skincare routine in the morning. The only thing I do is splash warm water on my face and apply moisturizer/ spf. Forget all of the cleansers, exfoliants and other treatments. They not only take time, but they strip your skin of its oils.

5. Clear the clutter from your wardrobe. Thousands of women can testify that the ten-item wardrobe not only saves you money, but time as well. How many hours have we wasted figuring out what to wear? Doing laundry for our endless wardrobes? Picking up after our clothes strewn all over the bedroom? The less garments you own, the less you have to deal with them.

I hope you enjoy my video today! Happy mother's day to all of you lovely, inspiring moms. Remember, when you feel discouraged with the large task ahead of you each day, remember the raising of children is the most important job in the world! You are raising the next generation. Try to enjoy this season of life and take care of yourself accordingly.

Cleaning in Nice Clothes? Year Round Ten Item Wardrobe? Daily Reflections? Reader Q&A

Reader Q&As are finally back! Your questions have been piling up and in the next three videos I answer them. Today, I'm answering a question about cleaning in your nice clothes. What should you do if you get really hot while cleaning the house? Also, what about people who live in a place with the same climate year-round? Should you have a year-round ten-item wardrobe instead of a seasonal one? How do I prepare my nightly and weekly reflections?

I hope you enjoy my answers in today's video. Be sure to come back and watch the next two installments as there is so much more to discuss!

AnnMarie writes: I've been working on a capsule wardrobe for about 4 months now, not on a regular basis. I go through my clothing when the kids are in bed and I can make stacks of clothing without them dismantling. It's a process but once you get going it's easy! Base on my Pinterest research I discovered my style, romantic modern chic, or something like that ??.?

Hi AnnMarie, Looking on Pinterest is a great way to discover what styles you like. You could also look at magazines or observe people you admire (who dress well) and figure out what your style is. I love romantic modern chic. It sounds fabulous!

Today, I would love to know your thoughts on today's discussion. What do you wear when you clean the house? How do you avoid wearing exercise clothes all day, everyday (or not?)? Ten-Item Wardrobe Talk-Through SS 2017 | Jennifer L. Scott

It's time for the ten-item wardrobe talk-through! Thank you so much to everyone for your encouraging comments on Monday's video, especially regarding my children. We had so much fun filming and they got a kick out of hearing your comments. They truly say, "thank you" for all of your kind compliments!

In today's video, I discuss the new items in my wardrobe, the budget aspect of this year's choices and answer your questions.

Mentioned in today's video:
The Jessica Simpson nursing camisole is what I currently wear under my blouses. I love this camisole because it has a built-in bra and is so comfortable.

Many people asked about the Barbara Barbieri wedge shoes I picked up from TJ Maxx. These shoes are very comfortable. I've worn them on several occasions now.

Women's Sam Edelman 'Gigi' Sandal in Beige This sandal is honestly my favorite go-to sandal in the spring/summer season. It is very comfortable to walk in. I wore mine so much that my pair recently broke!

...and the white leggings, which I have paired with the Rebecca Taylor dress to make up for its short side slit. These leggings are one size fits all. They are very soft and I think they are great quality, especially for the price at $10!

Check out the original ten-item wardrobe post here to see more on each item.

Happy Monday to you and your beautiful family!

Dear Lindsay, I loved your story. It's becoming so unusual to look presentable in today's society that those ladies really took note and applauded you. I applaud you too!

I hope you enjoy today's talk-through! Be sure to stop by the blog tomorrow for a very special bonus post. I'll be partnering with Halsbrook.com to share 6 ways to style a neutral dress. It is a very fun post, you don't want to miss it!
